Hands-on-History: News and Opportunities for Australia's Regional Heritage Groups

It was so great to start the month seeing our article, “Family History Tourism”, published in the September issue of Descent, the Society of Australian Genealogists magazine. Drawing on our first Hands-on-History experience in Wagga Wagga, NSW, it explores how connecting research, local knowledge and place can bring history to life, and give people a compelling reason to visit country Australia.

That same idea shaped our webinar "How to Tap into Tourism and bring your Local History To Life", held in mid-September to support NSW History Week. With more than 60 people tuning in, it was encouraging to see so much interest from regional heritage groups in turning their local stories into engaging visitor experiences!
If you missed it, not to worry!
Family History Holidays is running this FREE webinar again on Wednesday 14 October at 2pm AEDT.
Join us to explore practical ways that local historical and heritage organisations can tap into tourism. We will discuss how to combine your local knowledge, stories, collections and historic places with the expertise of tourism operators to create engaging visitor experiences that reveal what makes your town tick.
You will also discover how a Hands-on-History event can turn local expertise into an accessible and memorable experience - one that benefits visitors, heritage organisations and the wider community.
Wednesday 14 October at 2pm AEDT.
