Well look at that! One great-great-grandmother pictured standing proudly in her garden.

Discovering this photo of my great-great-grandmother in her garden at her home not far from the Yarra River made my day! The simple style and materials would make for an interesting mid-19th century episode of Grand Designs.

Isabel Ramsay was born in Melrose, Scotland, in 1814, and sailed to Melbourne  with her husband Alexander Duncan around 1838.

Facts and figures are interesting, but finding a photo creates a really strong connection with the past.   Thanks to Doncaster and Templestowe Historical Society for digitising some of their collection.  Next time we visit Melbourne we'll be heading out to Bulleen....and maybe we should start planning a  trip to Scotland?
